The 5SM6 AFD unit from Siemens is the first one of its kind that
detects serial arcing faults at an early stage. It is established since
2012 and fulfills all relevant rules and standards. With the
publishing of the IEC 60364-4-42, the installation is strongly
recommended all over Europe.

Type 1 Lightning Arresters include the system cables in the equipotential bonding, which protect the low-voltage systems
against the over voltages and high surge currents that can be triggered by direct or indirect lighting strikes.
The protection level of is lowered to 1.5kV by the lightning arrester, which reduces the load on the plant if a lightning strike
The lightning arrester are enclosed and are suitable for installation in the precounter area.
All spark gaps are tripped, so that decoupling reactors are no longer required for the installation of overvoltage protection
The lightning arresters are tested by wave-shaped lighting impulse, 25...100kA with Wave form 10/350µs.
Type 2 Surge Arrester
Surge Arresters type 2 are used downstream of Lightning Arresters Type 1 in main distribution boards or sub-distribution
boards. They protect Low Voltage systems against transient over voltages.
The type 2 surge arresters lowers the level of protection to 1.4 to 1.5KV.
Type 3 Surge Arrester
Type 3 Surge Arresters are installed downstream of the type 2 surge arresters in Sub-Distribution Boards close to the loads
in Single or multiphase systems and further limit the over voltage in order to protect the connected loads.
